Ahhhh, starting again…

I think I’ve seriously reinvented the wheel at least a dozen times. I might figure it all out one of these days. Actually, I should say that I’m tweaking the wheel a little bit, maybe getting back to my roots a little. It’s been quite a ride in my 11 years of photography business.

Let’s go back 12 years. I says to myself…I says “Kim, you really need to figure out what you want to do when you grow up”. I was only in my mid 30′s ya know. I took a year to research the photography climate in the Minot area, hone my skills, purchase a few pieces of gear. I officially dove in January of 2001. It was a much different photography world back then, lots of changes from now.

Maybe the name 360 has more meaning to me than I thought. I seem to be coming back around to where I started, in a way. I started working out of my home, and that’s where I want to be headed again. But wow, what a ride. In that time I’ve created a solid reputation, started a photo booth business, purchased a photo lab business, and now have a CPP I can add to my name (Certified Professional Photographer). But the way my life goes, I made it way too complicated and burned myself out.

So where am I going? I am a creative person who has become bogged down in business. Along with photography, I like to dabble in mixed media, painting, designing, music, and so much more. Maybe I’m heading in a more bohemian direction. Most of all, I want happiness, and I haven’t been 100% happy with my life as a photographer for a while now. The climate has definitely changed, with everyone with a camera and the desire to “capture the moment” thinking they are a professional photographer. Am I bitter? Perhaps a little. But that’s not the reason for the change.

I think I’m at a point in my photography career where I want to make more of a statement, create something with deeper meaning. Compositing will certainly take me in that direction.

Speaking of compositing, here is my latest creation. One of many more to come. I’ll stop yammering and save it for future posts.
